SOUTHERN MARYLAND — For most people, a 5×6 grid is used for staying organized, measurements of some sort, or maybe it means nothing to them at all. But for some, this grid is part of their daily routine.
The game is relatively simple. Each day there is a single word released for the world to play. You have the choice to start with any five-letter word for the first row. If a letter turns green, it is in the correct spot. Yellow means the letter is in the word but the wrong spot. While the gray blocks mean the letter is not in the word at all.
One of the coolest features to help you keep track of which letter has been used or not is that the keyboard also changes color for the letter corresponding to correctness.
Designed to release one word puzzle a day, Wordle captivates its player daily and leaves them wanting more. Being able to only play one word per day helps prevent players from becoming burnt out from trying to solve dozens of words in a sitting, and since everyone plays the same word each day, it’s a level playing field.
The game was created by Josh Wardle for his puzzle-loving partner but has been bought by the New York Times for about seven figures. Some users have complained that since the game was bought out, the words have become more difficult than before.
It is the talk of the office, classrooms, and is all over big news organizations. Players ask each other what is their go-to starter word, what is their winning percentage, or which row they have the most solved words on.
Don’t spoil today’s word for anyone though! Because a new word is only released every 24 hours, players can decide whether they want to start their day with a brain workout or wind down with a game before bed.
